An extraordinary summit of the Organization of Turkish States (OTG) will be held on March 16 at the Beshtepe Presidential Complex in Ankara on the topic “Disaster and emergency management and humanitarian assistance,” according to the organization’s website.

The summit will serve as a high-level platform for discussing the state of emergency in Turkey caused by the recent earthquake in that country.

At the event, the participants will exchange views on the prospects for cooperation in the elimination of the consequences of natural disasters and emergencies and the provision of humanitarian assistance within the framework of the OTG.

Bilateral meetings are also planned at the summit.

It is expected that following the summit, the leaders will sign the Ankara Declaration.

The summit will be attended by the heads of the organization’s member states – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

The Prime Minister of Hungary and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesa of Turkmenistan will take part in the work of the upcoming summit as countries with observer status in the OTG.

The Organization of Turkic States was established with the signing of the Nakhchivan Agreement on October 3, 2009 in order to strengthen ties between the Turkic-speaking countries, after the Summit of Turkic-speaking States held in the period from 1992 to 2010 under the name of the Turkic Council under the leadership of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Kyrgyzstan.

The Organization of Turkic States received its current name at the OTG summit held in Istanbul on November 12, 2021.
