Experts from the states of the Eurasian Economic Union, representatives of government agencies, business and science at the site of the Eurasian Economic Commission, chaired by Deputy Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Policy Aina Kusainova, exchanged experiences and discussed issues of genomic breeding of farm animals in the EAEU.

“Currently, all the countries of the Union are solving the issue of the use of genomic selection independently, with varying degrees of activity due to economic, organizational and personnel capabilities. In some states or their regions, the livestock breeding system is already ready for the transition to genomic assessment, and somewhere else there is still significant work to be done, both to create the necessary infrastructure and in terms of organizational measures,” Aina Kusainova noted.

During the consultations, the approaches of the Member States to the formation of the structure of specialized laboratories, the creation of reference populations of breeding animals, the organization of a system for predicting the breeding value of farm animals based on genomic analysis were heard and discussed. As a result of the meeting, agreements were reached on a more detailed study of international experience in the use of genomic selection and the state of affairs in each of the Union States in order to identify possible coordinated actions and approaches.
