On March 19, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov met with Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Abulgate in Cairo.
During a thorough confidential conversation, the tasks of strengthening cooperation between Russia and the Arab League in the interests of resolving crisis situations in the Middle East and North Africa, strengthening security and stability in this strategically important region were discussed. At the same time, considerable attention was paid to the issues of intensifying work within the framework of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum.
The in-depth exchange of views on topical regional issues confirmed the similarity of approaches between Russia and the Arab League regarding ways to resolve the crisis situations in Libya, Syria, Yemen, as well as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on a well-known international legal basis, including relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative approved at the Arab League summit in 2002.
