The challenges in the energy sector facing the states of the Eurasian Economic Union and the willingness to overcome them by joint efforts were noted by the Minister for Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission Arzybek Kozhoshev at the International Energy Forum of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union “RES, innovative developments and digital transformation in special economic conditions”, which was held in Bishkek on March 16-17.

The forum is organized by the Association of Women in the Energy Sector of Kyrgyzstan jointly with the EEC and is dedicated to the expansion of the use of renewable energy sources in the energy balances of the EAEU states, the digital transformation of energy and the development of human resources.

The EEC Minister focused on the active use of renewable energy sources and the decarbonization process associated with this, the transition to low-carbon development. “One of the results of the transition to low–carbon development will be a reduction in demand for fossil fuels and an increase in the role of renewable and other green energy sources,” Arzybek Kozhoshev believes.

The forum was attended by Vadim Zakrevsky, Director of the EEC Energy Department, who stressed that along with renewable energy sources, the list of promising areas of development includes hydrogen and nuclear energy.

In the countries of the Eurasian “five” today, all types of renewable energy are actively developing, both relatively new – solar, wind, tidal, geothermal sources, waves and others, and traditional – hydropower and the use of biomass.

Representatives of the Executive Committee of the CIS Electric Power Council, the Eurasian Development Bank, authorized state bodies, the scientific and business community of the EAEU countries made presentations on the sidelines of the forum.
