China’s top 10 scientific achievements over the past year include discoveries and developments from fields such as astronomy, energy resources, medicine and environmental protection. In order to compile the rating, experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China reviewed about 600 works, the results of which were published in the period from December 1, 2021 to November 30, 2022.
The “top ten” of the main inventions of last year included the synthesis of ethylene glycol, the development of highly efficient solar cells and modules, research related to the resistance of coronavirus from immune protection, etc.
The first place in the Top 10 was awarded to the work on the structure of the Martian subsurface, written based on data obtained with the help of the Zhurong rover. With the help of radar research, scientists not only managed to get an accurate visualization of the deep layers of the planet, but also to assume that there may be water sources on Mars. The second and third positions in the list were obtained by detecting radio bursts using the “Heavenly Eye” (approx. – Chinese radio telescope, whose antenna diameter is 500 m.) and presentation of a method for producing hydrogen from seawater.
