The end of the week will be marked by festive events throughout the country: on April 1, Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninov will turn 150 years old. In honor of the anniversary of the great musician, thanks to whom the whole world once again fell in love with Russian classical music, anniversary concerts and commemorative events will be held.

In today’s article, we will share the capital’s events for this weekend dedicated to the memory of the great composer and, of course, connoisseurs of his music.

1) A music and educational program will be held at VDNH.

It will include a concert, a performance and a series of informative lectures. The concert program “Rachmaninov Forever” will be built as a series of memoirs of the great composer: fragments of letters from Sergei Vasilyevich about life in exile, love and creativity will be read on it.

The next day, lectures “Vocal Music of Sergei Rachmaninoff” and “The Last Romantic in the music of the XX century” will be held in the pavilion, where they will talk about the specifics of the musician’s worldview and his character. On the last day of the anniversary program, the Museum of Slavic Writing “Slovo” will host a shadow performance “Rachmaninov’s Hands”, in which the only expressive means will be music and the actor’s hands.

The events will take place from March 31 to April 2.

2) Another thematic event will be held in Zaryadye. The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert program

The concert will feature the composer’s most famous works. The accompaniment will be “letters written by him, as well as letters that he never wrote.” The organizers managed to fantasize about the content of non-existent records with the help of neural networks.

Organizers of “Rachmaninov. I am Here” promises a grandiose, soulful performance, where the audience will be able to immerse themselves in the world of the great composer and feel his presence.

The concert program will begin on April 1 at 13:00.

3) The exhibition “To the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninov” will be held in the Pashkov House of the Russian State Library until April 5.

It will feature records of Russian and foreign companies with performances of Rachmaninov’s own compositions and works by other authors, as well as recordings of other outstanding musicians performing compositions by Sergei Vasilyevich. The other part of the composition will consist of recordings of concerts and rare documentation of performances.

A large number of memorable concerts and events will be held in other cities of Russia. For example, the festival “Rachmaninoff and (not) his time” in St. Petersburg, or the concert program “Rachmaninoff. Visible Music” in Yekaterinburg.

The editorial board of our publication recommends visiting the concert program of your city on the weekend. This can be done not only by fans of Rachmaninoff’s music, but also by those who have long wanted to discover classical music. The anniversary of the great composer can be a great occasion to expand your cultural horizons and replenish your music playlist.
