The first container train on the international transport corridor “North – South” departed from the Chelyabinsk-Cargo YUZD station. The operator of the service is Russian Railways Logistics. The train of 31 platforms with containers will pass through the territory of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to the port of Iran, from where the cargo will be sent by sea to India. For the movement of a container train to the Southern Railway, a specialized schedule thread was developed in this direction, including accelerated cargo delivery within the framework of the Scheduled Transportation service on the territory of the Russian Federation. Non-ferrous metals and food products were exported as part of the train. The development of freight transportation in the South-South international direction “North – South” opens up new prospects for cooperation for enterprises in the region.

The International Transport Corridor (ITC) “North-South” is a multimodal route for the transportation of passengers and cargo, with a total length of 7,200 km from St. Petersburg to the port of Mumbai (Bombay). A significant part of the North–South MTC passes through the railways of Russia, which account for 33-53% of the total length of the overland part of the corridor, depending on the route. The main goal of the development of the North–South ITC is to serve the foreign trade of the Russian Federation with the countries of the Transcaucasia, the Caspian region, Iran, the states of South Asia and the Persian Gulf
