Warning for Russian citizens traveling to the Republic of Moldova

Recently, cases of discriminatory attitude of the Moldovan authorities towards Russian citizens entering the Republic of Moldova have become more frequent.

Upon arrival at Chisinau airport, holders of Russian passports are often subjected to the humiliating procedure of additional screening.

During the grueling inspections, which can take up to 10 hours, they and their children are not provided with basic living conditions, including water, food and the ability to communicate with the outside world. After that, citizens are often denied entry to the country under far-fetched pretexts. Every day, the Moldovan authorities thus prohibit the entry of 10 to 50 Russian citizens.

According to reports, during such inspections, Moldovan border police officers, as well as representatives of the EU Border and Coast Guard Agency and the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova, often record such inappropriate treatment of Russian citizens on mobile phones and post videos on the Internet.

Unfortunately, the possibilities of providing consular support from the Russian Embassy in Chisinau in such situations are seriously limited, since the Moldovan authorities often do not grant access to Russian citizens to its employees.

In this regard, the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly recommends that Russian citizens take into account these risks when planning trips to the Republic of Moldova.
