President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting with Chairman of the Central Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina on May 29, BelTA has learned.

“You are a recognized figure. Even our enemies admit that Elvira Nabiullina very quickly dealt with economic issues in Russia and currency problems, especially under sanctions. I almost quoted our enemies. Therefore, I would also ask you to focus on the issue – there is a lot of talk about this – of the digital ruble. What is it, how will we move in this direction. But the most important thing for me is still the reserve currency,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

The Head of State noted that the de-dollarization of the international economy is taking place now. In this regard, he asked the opinion of the head of the Central Bank how deep this process has gone. “Naturally, new reserve currencies will appear. I keep pushing my colleagues that we need to run, run, run now in order not to fall behind. Is it possible to run here, or is it still a long process?” the President clarified.

Alexander Lukashenko also invited Elvira Nabiullina to consider a number of other issues that had already been discussed between the parties. “I would be happy to listen to you on the problems that the central banks of both Belarus and Russia are living with today. And if there are any questions, you tell us, we will work on these issues to resolve them,” the head of state said.

“We are on the currency union (we are talking about the Interbank Currency Council of the National Bank of Belarus and the Central Bank of Russia. – Approx. BELTA) we meet twice a year. Not only in Minsk, we meet in different places. We are discussing all the issues, what you said,” said Elvira Nabiullina.

The head of the Central Bank arrived in Belarus the day before. According to her, she was impressed by the nature and well-groomed country. “Yesterday I just arrived a little earlier. And we took a ride – of course, it was amazing. We looked at the fields – it’s a delight,” Elvira Nabiullina shared her impressions. – Everything is very well maintained, very beautiful. Everything is sown, everything works. Of course, it’s amazing.”

“It looks like your homeland (Elvira Nabiullina hails from Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan. – Approx. BELTA). I always say: I fly by plane, I fly up to you – one in one. One-on-one nature,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
