The new satellite of the Russian Federation “Condor”, which was put into orbit earlier on Saturday, is able to take pictures of the Earth’s surface in any weather and at any time of the day thanks to a synthesized aperture radar, the press service of Roselectronics told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

“The payload of the satellite is a synthesized aperture radar developed by Vega Concern (part of Roselektronika), designed to obtain high- and medium-resolution radar images. It is equipped with a lightweight umbrella-type mirror antenna and provides all-weather round-the-clock surveillance in a strip of the earth’s surface parallel to the flight path of the spacecraft,” Roselectronics reported.

It is noted that the tasks of the new satellite include terrain mapping, ecomonitoring and exploration of natural resources. It is emphasized that it is capable in any weather and at any time of the day to receive detailed images of the surface with a resolution of up to 1 meter and to survey the Earth in a strip up to 100 kilometers wide in the survey mode. The satellite locator operates in various modes, allowing you to solve a wide range of tasks.
