The CIS observer mission for the presidential elections of the Russian Federation will be headed by Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Ilkhom Nematov. His candidacy was approved by the decision of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Commonwealth Member States to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth.

The election of the President of the Russian Federation is scheduled for March 15-17, 2024. The CIS Observer Mission will monitor the electoral campaign at the invitation of the Russian side in accordance with the Convention on Standards of Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms in the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Regulations on the CIS Observer Mission for Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, as well as Referendums in the member States of the Commonwealth, guided by the legislation of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, the work of the CIS Observer Mission will be based on the principles of openness, neutrality and non-interference in the electoral process and in the internal affairs of the state.
