On February 21, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov received the chairman of the movement “Palestinian National Initiative” Mustafa Barghouti.
During the conversation, the situation in the Middle East and North Africa region was discussed, with an emphasis on the problems of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement.
In the light of the February 6-8 meeting of the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization, an in-depth exchange of views on overcoming the inter-Palestinian split took place. At the same time, the Russian side confirmed its unchanged position in favor of the speedy restoration of Palestinian national unity on the PLO’s political platform in order to establish sustainable peace negotiations with Israel and achieve a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian problem on a well-known international legal basis.
