On February 25, at the initiative of the British side, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, V.G. Titov, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of State for Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth Affairs and Development of the United Kingdom, J.Cleverley.

The parties discussed the current situation in bilateral relations and current international issues. On the Russian side, it was noted that in recent years, the British authorities have deliberately destroyed the foundations of our relations under various pretexts, conducted purposeful work to curtail ties in almost all areas, and escalated tensions in international structures.

In response to the interlocutor’s pointed statement of questions related to Russia’s recognition of the sovereignty of the DPR and LPR and the conduct of a special military operation by the Russian Armed Forces, he was given exhaustive explanations of our country’s position.

It is emphasized that Russia will take effective measures to protect national interests. It is pointed out that London’s provocative rhetoric aimed at encouraging the Kiev regime to destructive actions and further aggravating the situation is unacceptable.

It is particularly emphasized that we take into account the threats of new sanctions constantly sounding from the British side, but they are meaningless and useless from the point of view of the stated goal – to restrain the development of Russia. This will lead to nothing but another round of escalation.
