On April 23-25, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin took part in the XII International meeting of high representatives in charge of security issues.

In his speech at the plenary session chaired by Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation N.P.Patrushev, which was dedicated to ensuring international information security (IIB), S.V.Vershinin outlined key Russian priorities in this area. Our main line is focused on the formation of an international legal regime for regulating the information space in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter, as well as the creation of the necessary institutional foundations for an equal dialogue between countries on the use of information and communication technologies. Special attention was paid to relevant Russian initiatives at the UN, primarily in the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) on the IIB and the Special Committee on the Development of a Comprehensive Universal convention on Countering Information Crime. The readiness to increase cooperation on the IIB with partners in the CSTO, CIS, SCO, BRICS, as well as with constructively minded states in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East was emphasized.

On the sidelines of the event, Sergey Vershinin held a series of bilateral meetings with the delegations of the participating countries. Mutual interest was confirmed in further coordination at key multilateral and regional IIB platforms and in deepening bilateral cooperation in this area.
