On the Meeting of Senior Officials of Russia-ASEAN at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers

On April 26, a meeting of senior officials of Russia and the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers was held in St. Petersburg. The Russian delegation was headed by A.Y. Rudenko.

The parties discussed issues of promoting the Russian-Asean strategic partnership in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres. Specific measures have been outlined to deepen applied cooperation in the field of science and technology, energy security, digitalization, education, and the development of human relations.

A comprehensive exchange of views on current international and regional issues took place. The intention to step up joint efforts to counter common challenges and threats, strengthen coordination on multilateral platforms, and strengthen the Asean-centric architecture of security and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region was confirmed.

Ways of expanding ASEAN’s cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are considered.

On the sidelines of the Meeting, bilateral consultations were held with the heads of delegations of Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam on a broad regional agenda.
