The Tula branch of the State Historical Museum (GIM) has opened an exhibition “Russian Wedding. Traditions and rituals”.

On April 26, the Governor of the Tula region Alexey Dyumin took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

“Congratulations on the opening of a wonderful exhibition dedicated to the Year of the Family and dedicated to the traditions and rituals of the Russian wedding. Many of them have been forgotten and lost over the past decades. Today it is very important to preserve and honor our history, to pass on family traditions from generation to generation. I am sure that many more interesting events will take place at the museum this year,” Alexey Dyumin said.

The Governor thanked the GIM and its director Alexey Levykin for the idea to hold such an exhibition and, in general, for the implementation of large-scale exhibition projects on Tula land.

Alexey Levykin noted that the exhibition presents one of the most striking collections of the museum, the exhibits of which give visitors the opportunity to recall the history of one of the most important and ancient rituals.
Visitors to the exhibition will see monuments of decorative and applied art from the collection of the State Historical Museum, including everyday objects related to the wedding ceremony; paintings, costumes, icons, church crowns, traditional festive clothes, girls’ and women’s headdresses, including Tula ones.

The exhibition will run until August 19th.
