On 3 May in Istanbul, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin held another round of bilateral consultations on topical international and regional issues with Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey B. Akcapar.

They discussed general issues of the UN functioning with a focus on the work of its key bodies – the Security Council and the General Assembly – including the tasks of reforming and preparing for the forthcoming Summit of the Future.

In addition, the interlocutors exchanged views on such pressing regional issues as the Palestinian-Israeli and Cypriot settlements, the situation in Syria and Libya, with a focus on the fulfilment of the mandates of the relevant UN structures.

Much attention was paid to the current situation around Ukraine, in the Black Sea basin and the need for an urgent cessation of bloodshed in the Gaza Strip with a view to a long-term resolution of the conflict on a two-state basis.

A number of bilateral issues were also discussed. Both sides confirmed their intention to continue and develop fruitful co-operation.
