On May 7, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone Timothy Musa Kabba, who is in Moscow on a working visit.

During the talks, a range of topical issues were discussed for the further development of traditionally friendly Russian-Sierra Leonean relations, including deepening political dialogue and increasing cooperation in trade, economic, humanitarian and other fields. At the same time, additional steps were specified on the way to intensify bilateral business cooperation with an emphasis on the implementation of promising joint projects in the field of mining, geology and energy.

A thorough exchange of views on key issues on the international and African agenda focused on the issues of reforming the UN Security Council, the situation in and around Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, the Sahara-Sahel region and West Africa. The proximity of the principled approaches of Moscow and Freetown to most of the topics discussed was confirmed. They also stressed the priority of political and diplomatic methods to unblock crisis situations on the African continent, with the leading role of Africans themselves and the support of the international community. In this context, it was agreed to further strengthen coordination of actions in the UN and other multilateral platforms.

Sergey Lavrov and T.M.Kabba paid considerable attention to a wide range of tasks for the sustainable promotion of Russian-African multifaceted cooperation, taking into account the results of the second Russia–Africa summit in St. Petersburg in July 2023, as well as preparations for the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum ministerial conference to be held in Sochi in November this year.
