Philippine Ambassador to Russia Igor Bailen told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that he would like to sign an agreement of understanding with the EEU next year.

“I discussed this at the forum with Sergey Glazyev, Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics of the EEC. I expressed my personal willingness to work on it,” Baylen said.

According to him, in Manila, he recalled that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has five countries that already have a corresponding memorandum of cooperation with the EEU, including Singapore and Thailand.

“I think Myanmar, Indonesia and Vietnam are working towards a similar goal,” Baylen said.

The Ambassador noted that Myanmar signed the agreement at SPIEF 2023, and the diplomat hoped to sign the same agreement at the current SPIEF. However, this did not happen.

“But I hope it will happen, maybe next year. I have expressed my willingness to do this,” Baylen said.

He added: the Ministry of Commerce of the Philippines understands that it is in the interests of the country to move towards this.
