On the meeting between Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Minister for International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa N. Pandor

On 10 June, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov met with Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa Naledi Pandor in Nizhny Novgorod on the margins of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The sides thoroughly discussed topical issues of the Russian-South African strategic partnership with a focus on expanding trade and economic co-operation. They reaffirmed mutual interest in deepening political dialogue and focus on effective coordination of actions in the UN, BRICS, G20 and other international platforms.

Taking into account the common understanding of the origins and causes of the crisis around Ukraine, further opportunities for South Africa and a number of other representatives of the Global South to contribute to the search for peaceful resolution of the conflict were discussed. In the course of the exchange of views on Middle East issues, concern was expressed about the ongoing escalation in the Palestinian-Israeli confrontation. Some aspects of the situation on the African and European continents were also considered.
