The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China announced the expansion of the list of national-level tourist and recreational zones: 22 objects were added to it. The total number of such zones in the country has reached 85.

The territories added to the list include numerous attractions located near rivers, lakes, coastal zones and mountains.

The Chinese authorities first recognised several sites as national-level tourist and recreational zones in 2015. When awarding this status, officials take into account such factors as the state of infrastructure, quality of information services, efficiency of economic activities, and feedback from tourists.

In 2022, the country’s government released a plan for the integrated development of culture and tourism for the period 2021-2025. The PRC authorities pledged to develop a diversified, balanced and high-quality tourism offer system.
