This year, the whole world celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Master of cinema Sergei Parajanov, whose name is among the recognized masters of Soviet and world cinema.

The fate of the Master who created the era of auteur cinema is inextricably linked with the names of great figures of Soviet and Russian culture and art: Maya Plisetskaya, Bella Akhmadulina, Vladimir Vysotsky, Yuri Lyubimov, Andrei Tarkovsky, Yuri Nikulin and many others.

In the year of the 100th anniversary of the outstanding Master, whose anniversary has been included by UNESCO in the calendar of significant events in 2024, the S.Parajanov Moscow Theater and the Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the Russian Federation, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, are implementing a large–scale festival “Parajanov -fest”, which will be held from October 5 to 30 at prestigious venues in Moscow.

The mission of the festival is to reflect in our difficult times the high spiritual ideals inherent in the work of the great Master, the beauty of his philosophy and a high degree of morality and humanism in art, the importance of which is particularly emphasized in the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin – “The foundations of State policy for the preservation and strengthening of traditional spiritual and moral values.”

Famous figures of culture and art will take part in the festival, a unique exhibition project “SHADOWS OF PARAJANOV” will open in Moscow, which will feature 100 works by contemporary artists dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Master. A photo exhibition by Yuri Mechitov, Viktor Bazhenov and Tatyana Danilyants will be presented at the festival, and the author’s collection of the famous Armenian designer Lilit Melikyan “Seven Symbols of Parajanov” will be shown.

Screenings of documentaries about the Master, a retrospective of the film “The Color of Pomegranate”, a production of the Parajanov theater “I will avenge the World with Love”, mediation and performances, multimedia events, creative meetings with famous masters of art, round tables, press conferences are planned. The festival will end with a large Parajanov Gala Concert on October 30 in the Column Hall of the Central House of the Russian Army with the participation of jazz diva Mariam Merabova, world champions in ballroom dancing Arsen Agamalyan and Oksana Vasilyeva, the Dance and Soul Theater Sophie Devoyan, Margarita Pozoyan, Narek Gevorgyan, outstanding bass- People’s Artist of Armenia Barseg Tumanyan and other artists.

We hope that such a large-scale project will undoubtedly become one of the significant events in the cultural life of Russia, reflecting in our difficult time the power of art, the will to revive spiritual ideals and moral values.
