About the publication of the 15th volume of the “History Told by the People” publishing project

Fifteenth volume of the research project “The story told by the people”, which is implemented by the Institute for Economic Strategies and implemented with the information support of the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Military Historical Society, as well as representatives of federal, regional structures, public, scientific, veteran and youth organizations, is out of print.

The project is a kind of national book about the Great Patriotic War, which covers not the works of professional historians but the information from family archives, memories and documents about officers and soldiers, soldiers and home front workers, who returned with victory or fell on the battlefields. Given the large volume of materials received by the editors, the book is becoming a multi-volume publication.

The fifteenth volume is devoted to the 220th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, which is celebrated this year. The publication is preceded by an introductory speech of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in which he praised the intentions of the initiators of the project “to show the Great Patriotic War through the prism of human destinies, based on materials from personal, family archives. 160 employees of the NCID enlisted in the people’s militia, many of them died the death of the brave on the battlefields. Their names are carved on a memorial plaque in the high-rise building of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Others, in fulfillment of their professional and patriotic duty, with their daily efforts selflessly and persistently created the conditions for the rapid defeat of Nazi Germany and its satellites, they worked to form the foundations of the postwar world order. On the staff of the Foreign Ministry, who bore on their shoulders the heavy burden of wartime tasks, tells the article of a participant in those events, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences and Russian Academy of Sciences, S. L. Tikhvinsky “From the experience of Soviet diplomacy during the Great Patriotic War”.

The work on the volume was assisted by the Council of the Veterans of War and Labor and the Historical and Documentary Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
