CIS observers: Presidential elections in Kazakhstan were open and transparent

A press conference of the CIS International Observation Mission on the results of monitoring of the elections of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan held on Sunday was held in Astana.

The Head of the CIS Observer Mission, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev told about the long-term and short-term monitoring of the election campaign and voiced the conclusions the observers came to.

He also noted that the elections were well organized, calm and in conformity with the constitutional laws. The campaign was clean and open. Free expression of the will of the citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan was ensured. At the polling stations there was a festive atmosphere, people came with their families, children, which contributed to a positive atmosphere.

Dilrabo Mansuri, Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, said that 67 senators, deputies of eight CIS IPA Parliaments, employees of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat and experts of the IPA CIS International Institute of Monitoring Democracy Development participated in election monitoring.

On November 20, international observers visited polling stations in Astana, Almaty, Taldykorgan, Akmola Region, as well as in Baku, Yerevan, Minsk, Bishkek, Astrakhan, Kazan, Moscow, Omsk, Saint Petersburg, Dushanbe, Tashkent, Rome, Beijing, Istanbul, Seoul, Bucharest, Antalya and Paris.

In total, the observers covered 121 polling stations.

Based on the results of the monitoring, the group notes that the electoral legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides necessary conditions for holding democratic elections and observing the rights of all participants in the electoral process.

“Participation of six candidates in the election campaign testifies to the competitiveness of the electoral process”, – noted the coordinator.

The observers believe that the election commissions worked in accordance with the national legislation and international standards of democratic elections. All candidates were provided with equal access to printed and electronic mass media.

“The international observers from IPA CIS have come to a common conclusion that the November 20, 2022 early elections of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan were held in line with the rights and freedoms of all participants of the electoral process, they corresponded with generally recognized democratic principles and norms of organizing and conducting free and fair elections as well as with the international obligations of the Republic of Kazakhstan on ensuring rights and freedoms of all participants of the electoral process.

Secretary General of IPA CIS Council Dmitry Kobitsky in his speech noted that IPA has been involved in observing the elections since 1994 and the first country where observers of IPA worked was Kazakhstan.

He marked good organization of work of election commissions and election process in general and at the end he wished Kazakhstan active development and prosperity.
