For the 130th anniversary of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker”, the Stanislavsky Musical Theater and Vl.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko presents a new production choreographed by Yuri Posokhov. The first screenings will take place on November 25, 26 and 27.

The production is based on the fairy tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann. The audience will see the heroes of the story excluded from the classical ballet librettos. And the main leitmotif of the new version will be the theme of first love.

The choreographer also added more dances to the new production. “The performance turned out to be very big, there are a lot of dances,” said Posokhov. “I don’t put on a classical ballet with a pantomime: for me, dance is a living language from beginning to end. The artists had to speak my language: abandon familiar patterns, face unusual musicality and new transitions. But the MAMT artists have a huge experience in performing modern choreography, and we understood each other.”

The entire space of the stage will be occupied by a large-scale decoration in the form of a book. Artist Polina Bakhtina said that the performance will surprise the audience with “tricks”. “Their task is to immerse the audience in the state of a child, in a state of happiness and make them believe that everything is possible,” she said.

Ivan Nikiforchin will make his debut as the conductor of the performance. “It is important for me to achieve from the MAMT orchestra a truly concert, relief sonority, in which the polytembre magic of Tchaikovsky’s palette is not reduced to the monochromacy familiar to playing music in the orchestra pit,” he noted.
