The 23rd meeting of the Russian-Chinese Commission on Humanitarian Cooperation was held in videoconference mode under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova and Deputy Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Sun Chunlan. Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Nadezhda Venerable took part in the meeting on behalf of the Ministry of Culture of Russia.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in all humanitarian areas. Following the meeting, a number of agreed decisions were adopted, formalized by the protocol of the commission. As Tatiana Golikova noted, the development of Russian-Chinese cultural cooperation plays an invariably important role in strengthening strategic partnership.

“After the pandemic-related break, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China resumed the practice of implementing exchange cultural festivals, which have already received the status of branded projects. In 2021, the Festival of Chinese Culture in Russia was successfully held in an online format. In November-December 2022, ROSCONCERT, together with the State Concert of China, will also organize an online response Festival of Russian Culture in China,” the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.

“Thanks to modern technologies, even in conditions of pandemic restrictions, joint cultural events continue to take place with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China,” she said.

Thus, a unique flagship event is the International Festival “Russian-Chinese Fair of Culture and Art”, which takes place on two banks of the Amur River – in the cities of Blagoveshchensk and Heihe.

Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of cinematography is actively developing. Due to the successful collaboration of the Russian Film Festival program with the Beijing International Film Festival in 2021, this year the Russian Film Festival was held in China for the second time. As part of the film screenings from September 26 to October 15, 2022, 17 modern Russian films were shown online. Animation as one of the most popular types of Russian content in Asia was also included in the program of the Russian Film Festival.

“I also cannot fail to note the full-time participation of Chinese professionals in major Russian competitions.  The XIV International Ballet Competition, which took place in June 2022 at the Bolshoi Theater, was attended by two Chinese dancers as members of the jury. In addition, 18 musical figures and 3 members of the jury from China participated in the I Rachmaninov International Competition of Pianists, Composers and Conductors, which took place in July 2022,” said Nadezhda Venerable.

In the light of the upcoming 27th regular meeting of the heads of government of Russia and China, they expressed confidence that the results of the commission’s meeting will make a significant contribution to its successful holding and will play a positive role in further strengthening humanitarian ties between Russia and China.

Following the meeting of the commission, the Minutes of the 15th meeting of the subcommittee on cooperation in the field of cinematography of the Russian-Chinese Commission for Humanitarian Cooperation were signed.
