The opening of the monument to Prince Alexander Nevsky in Alma-Ata proves the indestructible historical community of the Slavic and Turkic peoples, their centuries-old union and diverse spiritual heritage. This is stated in a widely circulated comment by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“Alexander Nevsky maintained good relations with the Turkic world as well. His multifaceted activities contributed to the fruitful development of ties between Ancient Russia and the Great Steppe, the promotion of progressive ideas of Eurasian civilization based on respect for various religious and cultural traditions. Thus, the opening of this monument embodies the indestructible historical community of the Slavic and Turkic peoples, their centuries-old union and diverse spiritual heritage,” the commentary notes.

As Zakharova noted, the legacy of Alexander Nevsky as a diplomat and statesman serves today as a significant basis for building a constructive dialogue between representatives of different peoples and faiths in the Eurasian space.

The opening of the monument to Alexander Nevsky in front of the cathedral named after him took place in Alma-Ata on July 13. The monument decorated the square in front of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. The opening of the monument is timed to a significant date – the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan.
