Chinese President Xi Jinping received Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who arrived in Beijing on a visit, RIA Novosti reports.
“We would like to express our admiration for the successes you have achieved in recent years. We are sincerely pleased with these successes, because these are the successes of friends, although not everyone in the world shares this attitude and tries in every possible way to restrain the development of China. Actually, so is the development of Russia,” Lavrov said at the very beginning of the meeting.
He expressed confidence that the countries would honorably celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. According to the Minister, thanks to the heads of state, the relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China have reached an unprecedented level, and the proximity or coincidence of approaches to solving key problems of our time lay the foundation for strengthening strategic coordination on the world stage.
Xi Jinping, in turn, noted that the Russian Foreign Minister is “an experienced diplomat and a long-time friend of the Chinese people.” He stressed that Beijing and Moscow have “embarked on the path of peaceful coexistence”, are working for mutually beneficial cooperation and in the interests of sustainable development of bilateral relations.
