]]> On April 26, a consultative meeting of the BRICS countries on the Middle East and North Africa was held in Cape Town under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Candit Mashego-Dlamini, which was attended by the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and African Countries, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov, Special Envoy of the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the Middle East Zhai Jun, Secretary for Relations with Africa and the Middle East of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry Carlos Duarte, Pradeep Rajpurohit, Director of the Department for West Asia and North Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India.

Topical issues on the regional agenda were discussed in detail, with an emphasis on the development of the situation in Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, the Palestinian-Israeli and Western Sahara settlement, as well as in the Persian Gulf zone.

At the same time, it was stressed that the problems facing the countries of the Middle East and North Africa should be solved in accordance with the norms of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter, based on the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of states, respect for their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The participants of the consultations confirmed the attitude of the BRICS countries to continue cooperation and deepen political dialogue in order to find and promote consensual political and diplomatic solutions to the crisis situations facing the Middle East and North Africa region.

Following the consultations, a joint statement was adopted. At the same time, it was agreed that the next meeting of BRICS representatives in this format will be held in 2024 in the Russian Federation.
