Dmitry Volvach, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, took part in the Eurasian Conference on Intellectual Property and Technologies “IP Eurasia”, which was held in Moscow with the organizational support of the Eurasian Patent Office.<\/p>\n

Dmitry Volvach read out a welcome speech from Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexey Overchuk to the conference participants, and also drew attention to the fact that inventions, trademarks, industrial designs and copyrights in the age of artificial intelligence, high technologies and digital transformation are especially in need of an effective intellectual property management system.<\/p>\n

“Intellectual property is one of the key elements of the modern economy. The EAEU countries and their partners pay special attention to this issue,” the Deputy Minister stressed. \u2013 The system of regional protection of inventions is effectively operating in the Eurasian space through the Eurasian Patent Organization. The single Eurasian patent is valid on the territory of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and five EAEU countries. The Eurasian system of legal protection of industrial designs has been operating on the territory of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia since 2021.”<\/p>\n

For two years, the EAEU countries have been operating a regional system of registration and legal protection of means of individualization, which allows residents of the “Eurasian five” countries in any of the five national patent offices of the Union countries to receive guaranteed legal protection of a trademark or an appellation of origin.<\/p>\n

“At the site of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the countries of the Union are working on the creation of online search services for information about industrial property objects protected on the territory of the EAEU,” Dmitry Volvach noted. \u2013 To date, a scheme of interaction between the existing national services has been agreed upon. We are currently developing a draft international agreement that will consolidate this scheme at the level of the Union’s normative legal acts.”<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister also announced the signing of an Agreement on coordinated approaches to combat violations of intellectual property rights on the Internet, which the EAEU countries are preparing together with relevant departments. According to him, the document is aimed at improving the effectiveness of intellectual property protection in the Union and is designed to simplify the interaction of copyright holders with authorized agencies of all the countries of the Eurasian Five.<\/p>\n

In his speech, he also touched upon the development of international cooperation between the Union countries and India, noting the significant economic effect that, according to experts, the conclusion of a free trade agreement between the EAEU and India can bring. “Such agreements with international partners allow the Union to develop more effective formats of interaction in the field of intellectual property rights protection,” Dmitry Volvach concluded.<\/p>\n

The conference was also attended by President of the Eurasian Patent Office Grigory Ivliev, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova, Head of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property Yuri Zubov, representatives of organizations and departments in the intellectual field of Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and India.<\/p>\n
