{"id":41925,"date":"2023-12-25T22:15:07","date_gmt":"2023-12-25T19:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/embassylife.ru\/?p=41925"},"modified":"2023-12-25T22:30:51","modified_gmt":"2023-12-25T19:30:51","slug":"%d0%b5%d0%b0%d1%8d%d1%81-%d0%b8-%d0%b8%d1%80%d0%b0%d0%bd-%d1%81%d0%be%d0%b7%d0%b4%d0%b0%d1%8e%d1%82-%d0%bf%d0%be%d0%bb%d0%bd%d0%be%d1%84%d0%be%d1%80%d0%bc%d0%b0%d1%82%d0%bd%d1%83%d1%8e-%d0%b7%d0%be","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/embassylife.ru\/en\/2023\/12\/25\/41925\/","title":{"rendered":"The EAEU and Iran are creating a full-scale free trade zone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the sidelines of the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg on December 25, a free trade Agreement was signed between the Eurasian Economic Union and its member states, on the one hand, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the other hand.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eec.eaeunion.org\/upload\/resize_cache\/iblock\/ea7\/1400_909_28e47e797c9482dc4770acaf1e6b3e2d2\/eZHN20231225D_15866_1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The document was signed: Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Igor Petrishenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich, as well as Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Ali-Abadi.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eec.eaeunion.org\/upload\/resize_cache\/iblock\/503\/1400_909_28e47e797c9482dc4770acaf1e6b3e2d2\/eZHN20231225D_15771_1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Free Trade Agreement signed between the EAEU and the Islamic Republic of Iran will take trade between our countries to a qualitatively new level,&#8221; Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed. &#8220;The deal is ambitious \u2013 import customs duties will be eliminated in relation to almost 90% of the commodity nomenclature, which accounts for more than 95% of our mutual trade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eec.eaeunion.org\/upload\/resize_cache\/iblock\/00f\/1400_909_28e47e797c9482dc4770acaf1e6b3e2d2\/eZHN20231225D_15828_1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Interim Agreement that entered into force in 2019, leading to the formation of a free trade zone between the EAEU and its member states, on the one hand, and Iran, on the other hand, has already allowed the mutual trade turnover to double (from $2.4 billion in 2019 to $6.2 billion in 2022) despite the fact that the commodity coverage of the agreement was limited to a minimum set of agricultural and industrial products.<\/p>\n<p>In the interim agreement, the EAEU and Iran have consolidated agreements that the preferential trade regime they are creating will be the first stage of the transition to a full-scale free trade regime.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eec.eaeunion.org\/upload\/resize_cache\/iblock\/df6\/1400_909_28e47e797c9482dc4770acaf1e6b3e2d2\/eZHN20231225D_15812_1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During the negotiations on the free trade agreement, we took the interim agreement in force since 2019 as the basis, which in practice has shown its effectiveness. At the same time, we proceeded from two approaches. The first is to improve the regulatory part of our trade regime, the second is to ensure trade between our countries in a duty\u2013free regime for the widest possible range of goods. These two approaches were fully shared by both the EAEU and Iran. As a result, a deal has been formed, from which all its participants benefit,&#8221; said Andrei Slepnev, Minister for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, in accordance with the signed free trade agreement, &#8220;farmers of the EAEU countries will have exclusive conditions for the supply of such fundamentally important goods to the Iranian market as cereals, corn, vegetable oils, cattle and lamb meat, meat and poultry products, canned food, confectionery and a wide range of other agricultural products. As for industrial goods, the duty-free trade regime will be established for a wide range of products from metallurgy, chemical and woodworking industries, aircraft and shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, railway machinery and equipment and other products of the industrial sector.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eec.eaeunion.org\/upload\/resize_cache\/iblock\/327\/1400_909_28e47e797c9482dc4770acaf1e6b3e2d2\/eZHN20231225D_15832_1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Additional agreements were reached in the non-tariff part: in the areas of technical regulation, sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary measures, customs administration, electronic verification system of origin of goods, trade protection measures, ensuring the necessary level of transparency in public procurement.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, cooperation in a wide range of industries will be developed within the framework of the agreement. These are mining, energy efficiency and green growth, research and innovation, education, medicine, telecommunications.
