At a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on December 25 in St. Petersburg, the heads of state of the Eurasian Economic Union approved the main guidelines of macroeconomic policy for 2024-2025. The document is aimed at creating conditions for entering the trajectory of annual GDP growth of the EAEU in the future at a pace exceeding the pace of development of the global economy.<\/p>\n

As noted in the document, the growth of geopolitical tensions and increased economic pressure against individual member states led to a decrease in GDP in the Union as a whole by 1.6% by the end of 2022. At the same time, in 2023, the Union’s economy entered a growth trajectory. In January \u2013 September 2023, the EAEU’s GDP increased by 3.1% compared to the same period last year and amounted, according to preliminary estimates, to 1,701.3 billion US dollars. The production of industrial products is steadily growing (an increase of 3.7% in 10 months of this year) and agricultural products (an increase of 0.5% over the same period), the importance of the internal market of the Union is increasing.<\/p>\n

Taking into account the strengthening of the real sector of the EAEU countries in the new conditions, a further increase in the pace of economic growth of the EAEU is expected in the medium term. In order to accelerate the activation of the economic development processes of the Member States, it is necessary to focus macroeconomic policy on creating favorable conditions for strengthening economic potential, increasing investment and expanding the production of goods and services.<\/p>\n

The document suggests that the EAEU countries direct efforts to implement the following measures:<\/p>\n

– creation of favorable macroeconomic conditions for increasing investment volumes (including maintaining price stability, developing the use of national currencies for settlements in mutual trade, minimizing currency risks);<\/p>\n

– development of the scientific and technological potential of the EAEU (joint scientific research, localization of high-tech industries, development of digital technologies and other measures);<\/p>\n

– strengthening the production base and development of cooperation in the real sector (creation of favorable conditions for the development of industrial cooperation, development of high-tech sectors of the agro-industrial complex, expansion of cooperation in the field of energy conservation and other measures);<\/p>\n

– development of the internal market of the Union and expansion of export opportunities (removal of barriers, reduction of exemptions and restrictions, formation of a common market for transport services, creation of favorable conditions for the development of electronic commerce within the Union and other measures).<\/p>\n

“In 2024-2025, solving the tasks of improving the macroeconomic environment, increasing investments in the development of production, increasing scientific, technological and production potential, implementing Eurasian cooperation projects, as well as expanding the opportunities of the internal market of the Union and developing international economic cooperation will create conditions for entering the trajectory of annual GDP growth of the Union at a rate exceeding the pace of development of the global economy,” the document says.<\/p>\n

Governments and national (central) banks of the EAEU states are recommended to take into account the main guidelines when conducting macroeconomic policy.<\/p>\n
