On September 4, 2026, the All-Russian premiere of the full-length documentary “Prayer on the Front Line” took place at the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army (Moscow, Suvorovskaya Square).

For centuries, philosophers and theologians have been pondering the nature of faith. Thousands of treatises have been written, spears have been broken in countless debates. But war answers the question of faith in a matter of seconds. When a splinter whizzes over your head, when the earth shudders from the rupture, when you hear the sound of death’s footsteps behind you, all theological constructions are compressed into one word. And this word is the name of God.

There are no atheists in the trenches. This phrase takes on a literal meaning where one can only hope for a miracle. A man turns to God with a request to help him and his brothers in arms at the most critical moment of his life.

There are hundreds of such cases on the frontline of a special military operation. Mines that fall and don’t explode. A voice saying “get down” just before impact. Each such case is, for those who have experienced it, irrefutable proof that God hears their prayers.

The film captures the unique experience of the spiritual unity of Russian soldiers. More than two hundred clergymen of different faiths help their flock to endure the dangers, hardships and hardships of military service. They travel to the conflict zone, changing each other. There are 25 Orthodox priests and 5 Muslim imams. And one Buddhist lama is constantly there, risking his life every day.

Fighters of different nationalities and faiths are fighting together. In the dugouts, you can see a copy of the painting by the artist Skornyakov “Pray, brother, I’ll cover you.” It depicts an Orthodox soldier firing, and next to him a Muslim fighter performs a short prayer.

No one here asks anyone about their religious affiliation. For all Russian soldiers, the main principle was and remains: “Faith is different, the Fatherland is one”

This film tells the real stories of people, believers and atheists, those who, in the terrible conditions of war, look into the eyes of death and turn to the Almighty, trusting him with their lives and souls. And he gets help. This is a film about the power of prayer and the spiritual ascent of Russian soldiers.

“There is no division here”: how war changes the values of believers.

Live-shooting of the film “Prayer on the front line”.

Testimony of Yamal mula Gazizov Ismagil

On the front line, where life can end at any moment, people start to set priorities differently. What seemed to be the most important thing in a peaceful life — a car, an apartment, a career — suddenly loses its meaning. This is being replaced by the realization of the most important value — life.

“”This is what Gazizov Ismagil Ildusovich, the imam-khatib of the Azat Safa Cathedral Mosque from the city of Nadym, who not only brings humanitarian aid from the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, but also serves as a spiritual mentor for Muslim fighters, says: “We do not divide people by religion here,” emphasizes imam—khatib.

During his business trips, he traveled hundreds of thousands of kilometers, made dozens of trips to the front line, delivering aid from Yamal residents to military personnel. But his mission goes far beyond delivering humanitarian aid. The main thing he brings with him is prayer and a word of encouragement.

“We don’t just bring things here,” the imam emphasizes. “The most valuable thing we give the fighters is spiritual support.”

How is the Muslim field prayer organized?

Muslims have their own prayer rooms on the front line. The imam explains that it is incorrect to call them “mosques” — these are rooms in dugouts or specially equipped spaces. Muslims of different nationalities — Tatars, Bashkirs, Chechens, Dagestanis – pray together for their loved ones and for victory. The main requirement is the correct direction of the Qibla (the side of the holy city of Mecca). Everything else should be as simple and functional as possible.

“We shouldn’t have such a strong luxury. We should have it so that we can gather collectively to pray,” says Ismagil Ildusovich.

But even such simple conditions become a real salvation for the fighters. Many of them admit to the imam that they came to the front as non-believers, but after heavy fighting they began to look for support in religion.

Why does war change human values?

Imam-khatib notes that under fire, people begin to look at the world differently: “After a combat mission, a person’s values change 180 degrees. A person begins to realize that life turns out to be more valuable than anything else. Here you know: You’re alive today, you can leave tomorrow.” For many fighters, faith becomes the anchor that keeps the soul from disintegrating in the chaos of battle.

How does war unite people of different faiths?

Imam Khatib emphasizes the special atmosphere that is created when an Orthodox church and a Muslim prayer room are located side by side, and in some units literally across the wall: “There is no division of faith here — there is only a common faith in victory and a desire to support each other. We are a multinational country, but we are united, and people unite in difficult times.”

Every man becomes a believer in war. Even if he has not gone to a temple or mosque before, he wants to pray here, talk with the imam or the priest.

On the front line, spiritual unity is manifested not only in the neighborhood of prayer rooms. But representatives of different faiths also regularly visit the fighters. First, they hold a general conversation with all the military personnel, and then they disperse to conduct prayers according to their traditions: Orthodox Christians go to the priest, Muslims to the imam.

How does faith teach goodness and mercy? Ismagil Ildusovich says that religion is not only rituals or prayers. This is, first of all, the doctrine of mutual assistance and cites a historical fact that few people know: “The Prophet Muhammad never destroyed temples of other religions, but on the contrary, exempted Christian priests from taxes.”

He believes that today some people are trying to contrast Orthodoxy and Islam, but in fact both religions teach kindness and mercy. At the front, this unity is particularly evident — there is no place for religious separation.

To the question, why do you keep going to the front? Imam Khatib replied: “We need to help, someone has to go help. I find spiritual wealth at the front. Trips have become the meaning of my life.”

Despite the harsh living conditions, Ismagil Ildusovich finds special value in them, he wants to be a “living link” between the rear and the front. For many Muslim fighters, such meetings become a source of spiritual strength.

On the front line, faith becomes not a personal matter for every fighter, but a powerful factor of national unity. It unites people of different nationalities and faiths around common values — life, family, protection of their land.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

Once upon a time, when we, a group of journalism students, were at a congress of astrophysicists, one of its participants told us: “Are you journalists? It’s not true, you can’t have so many journalists all at once.” Not much time has passed, and the number of newspapers, magazines, and TV channels has begun to grow by leaps and bounds. At the same time, the profession has become widespread.

In recent years, a new explosion has occurred before our eyes – messenger channels, social media pages, podcasts… Today, anyone can become a blogger and gain a certain number of subscribers. Yulia Ablets, founder of the federal educational program “Workshop of New Media”, told the AiF journalist about what new media is, how they have changed the information field and the profession of the creator of author’s content.

New media is all of us

— The Workshop of New Media is 5 years old, a landmark event. What are the new media like now?

— New media are rather new forms of communication: blogging, podcasts. But it seems to me that today we are all part of the new media. After all, one way or another, we work in the Internet space, go out on social networks and messengers. Therefore, the concept of “new media” is about the relationship between the creator and the consumer of content.

If earlier, about 20 years ago, we said that there are those who create and distribute content (for the most part it was the media), and those who consume it (that is, a wide audience), today these boundaries are completely mixed. We understand that any consumer of content picks up a mobile phone, goes online, and now they become media. Moreover, such bloggers can often quickly grow a large audience, gain trust, and produce fairly professional content using neural networks. And this is the first important change: the boundaries between the content creator and its consumer have been blurred.

What follows is a fundamental change in what is expected of media professionals. Again, if 20-30 years ago it was believed that the main thing for them was to create a high—quality media product, that is, to write high-quality text, shoot high-quality video, and so on, today it is not so significant. Accordingly, the threshold for entry into the profession has become much lower.

Previously, in order to produce a video sequence, you needed a full-fledged video studio, sophisticated equipment, lights, and an editing studio. And not everyone could act as a content creator. And now everything has been simplified so much that we can shoot a pretty high-quality picture with a small camera on a tripod with a simple lamp.

With the text, everything has also become easier due to the fact that neural networks have rapidly burst into our lives (unfortunately or fortunately, this is a separate issue for discussion). Today we can get a pretty good text from them. He will certainly need verification, a human emotional component, but, nevertheless, the base is already there.

The revolution being made by neurotechnology and artificial intelligence leads to the fact that the main thing is not only and not so much the production of content, but the ability to fully manage the information environment.

We are turning into media technologists

— What does it mean to be able to manage the information environment?

— We are all fighting for the audience’s attention by producing quite a lot of content. Accordingly, our consumer lives in an information-saturated world. Some people call it information noise, while others call it the new information economy. One way or another, the winner is the one who understands how to deliver his information, his meanings to the right audience. And it’s not easy today.

If earlier we knew that there was such and such a media outlet with an understandable audience, and working through it, we convey our information to it, now the consumer moves very quickly from site to site. Plus, he receives a huge amount of information every day from various platforms surrounding him: his phone, advertising banners (which have turned into full-fledged new media), TV, radio, search engines (which have also become media platforms).

— And how can we encourage readers, viewers, and listeners to choose our site or specific material on it?

— In order to reach your audience and understand that the information has been delivered, that the person has seen, read, and perceived it, you need to use a complex combination of both technological and semantic solutions. But trust becomes the key factor. Trust in the site, and therefore in the materials that appear on it.

However, the following question immediately arises: how do we measure the effect of our media interaction? So a person watched our video or read our text, and what did it change about him?

In summary, I would say that the most important difference between new media is that a media specialist turns into a media technologist — a person who can operate with meanings, technologies, platforms, and formats, who understands how to deliver information and how to measure the effects of information impact on the audience.

— Is one person capable of doing all this?

— Of course, this is a big complex task. And, of course, it’s quite difficult to do this alone, so media teams come to the fore. A truly effective media product can only be created by a truly cool, effective media team, which will include a classic journalist who masterfully knows how to package a fact into an information message, and an engineer who understands how technologies work, how platform algorithms work and how to reach their audience through them, and philosophers, psychologists, those who understand what human attention is, how we can manage it, and, of course, promotion specialists.

There should be a lot of heroes— But still, teams don’t always enter the information space today. For example, NGO leaders become bloggers by talking about their projects — they simply do not have the means to invite a team. And so they themselves timidly learn the skills of an unfamiliar profession.…

— It is very important for representatives of the non-profit sector to enter the information field, and we would like to thank and honor those who do this.

But I see that for many NGO leaders, media representation is a side activity. That’s why we always ask them for two things. First, if you are creating a project and applying for a grant, for example, be sure to include funds in the grant for media promotion: for creating a media product and delivering it to an audience. And if it’s a big project, lay down the costs for a full-fledged media specialist. We always hire an accountant, realizing that this is a complex field that requires specific competencies. Similarly, media is also a complex professional field, and professionals should be involved in it.

Why is it important that NGO projects are presented in the media? I see two key reasons. First. The non-profit sector, as they say, sees social problems at its fingertips. Where the state, due to certain restrictions, does not have time to intervene, NGOs can solve these problems. By going public, their leaders draw attention to problems that can be solved by involving a large number of people. For example, many environmental issues are easily dismissed when attention is drawn to them through the media, and people go out on clean–up days. The media field for NGOs is a huge resource for gaining supporters, support, fundraising, as well as decisions at the legislative or executive level of government.

And the second big challenge is that society needs heroes today. The characters are diverse because we are all different, and one cool heroic astronaut is not enough for everyone. Someone will get hooked on this, and someone will say: “Well, an astronaut and an astronaut. He’s too far away from me.” And when a person sees a guy, let’s say, from the next yard or a girl working at the school opposite, who are also leaders of NGOs, they will become heroes for him at arm’s length. Looking at them, a person will realize that he himself can do the same.

That is, going to the media allows you to transform society for the better. Therefore, it is very important that such people appear in the public field. We call them “heroes – builders of the future.” There is such a track in the Workshop of New Media — it was invented by the graduates themselves. They created a resource about people and find heroes, make small documentaries about them.

Our first hero was Artur Orlov, Hero of Russia, participant in a special military operation, graduate of the Time of Heroes program, who now heads the Movement of the First. Another hero was ultramarathoner Ivan Zaborsky. Cool guy! He won the international marathon and finished with the Russian flag in his hands. But the competition was held in an unfriendly country, and his victory was annulled. Ivan said later that even if he had known initially that he would be deprived of the first place, he would still have taken the flag. It’s a creepy story.…

One of the latest films is about the amazing oncologist surgeon Rostislav Pavlov. Besides the fact that he is a very good surgeon himself and saves people, he says amazing words: “At some point I realized that I could save one, maybe 500 patients in a year. But if I become a mentor for young people, I can save thousands, maybe tens of thousands of patients, because my students will do it.”

Another of our heroines is Masha Andreeva from Rostov-on-Don. When she was 14 years old, she built a satellite with her own hands, and Roscosmos launched this satellite into orbit. At the age of 14, the girl assembled a satellite! Well, it’s cool that such people surround us!

— Julia, it turns out like this: you make films about heroes, we shoot something, write something. Your audience watched, ours read and watched. Then we give out the following stories. But in the end, there are no such heroes that everyone can hear. Even among the heroes of SVO, perhaps, except Vladislav Golovin (“Strings”), there are no such people.

— Yes, Struna is an amazing guy! But still, I think there should be a lot of different characters right now. So that there would be heroes of a special military operation, and Marya Ivanovna, a schoolteacher who has been teaching children for 40 years, gets up every day at 6 a.m., and does not spare herself. And also cool Petya, who has been working as a welder for 20 years and makes cool engineering structures, participated in the construction of the Crimean Bridge, for example. And he has a wonderful wife and three kids. Or an entrepreneur — by the way, one of our graduates, Yulia Bondareva, made a series of stories about socially responsible entrepreneurs.

In a few days, the Festival of New Media will begin, where the heroes will also be. There we will not only hold discussions about modern heroics and conduct master classes, but we will also assemble a large panel about heroes for an audience of about 800 people, where we will invite Igor Yurgin, a graduate of the Time of Heroes program, and cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko. That is, we will show different characters and from different sides.

The festival is a platform for raising important media topics and agreeing among the professional community on how we work on them, how we understand our tasks, in order to act synchronously and together.

Ethics of responsibility

— I think one of those topics is how we understand the struggle for audience attention. Is it necessary to go along with her and give out what she wants? Or has the educational function of the media not gone away, and we must develop our audience, strengthen and, in a sense, educate?

— It’s a very difficult question and a very correct one. We at the New Media Workshop are constantly thinking about him. By the way, one of the reasons for the appearance of this program was the realization that at some point the media seemed to be coming to a standstill, because they were following the lead of the audience, trying to satisfy any of its requests. Relatively speaking, we will show you what you like more, because it gives us advertising traffic and an increase in our advertising budget.

But if you follow this path, then thrash streams, extreme sports, blackmail, accidents, negative investigations (stolen here, killed there) come to the fore. Unfortunately, our consciousness picks up such episodes in the first place, because they emotionally cling to us. This leads to social degradation when people stop being able to work with complex texts, see their components in complex ones, and identify the relationships between them.

And, of course, in this sense, the media has had, is, and will continue to have a tremendous educational function. The doctor takes the Hippocratic oath – the essence of it is that he will not use the available knowledge to harm, but only to benefit people. It is also necessary in the media, because it is the strongest weapon. We must educate very responsible media professionals who will understand what kind of resource they have in their hands, what a tremendous impact they can have with this resource.

Therefore, for us, the New Media Festival is not just an event, celebration or event, but a place where we form a new media ethic — the ethic of responsible professionals who are aware of what they are doing, what consequences it can have, and are ready to take responsibility for ensuring that the impact is exceptionally positive.

By the way, in the era of artificial intelligence, the ethics of working with it cannot be ignored. This should also become a new professional standard — labeling content that is created using artificial intelligence. Or, on the contrary, to label what is created by man.

— What if a journalist uses a neural network in order to collect some information?

— Well, well done. You are advanced and technologically advanced, but please be responsible for the result that you create together with neural networks – at least check the facts, conduct fact-checking.

Our big mission is to ensure that most media professionals share these ethical principles and foundations, many of which came to us from both the Soviet past and the Russian Empire. And then we will be able to ensure that newly arriving specialists will be placed a priori in a responsible environment and brought up on these foundations.

One of the objectives of the New Media Festival is to create an environment where it is fashionable to be a responsible journalist, and it is fashionable to be a patriotic journalist. And there’s nothing wrong with that, as our young colleagues say, but on the contrary, it’s very cool when you can remain a responsible journalist and at the same time create cool modern content. One does not contradict the other at all!

reference

The III New Media Festival, which has become a gathering place for representatives of the Russian media industry, will be held on August 28-30 at the Senezh Management Workshop. It will bring together more than 700 media employees, bloggers, SMM specialists, videographers and other media specialists. Greetings from the deputy prime ministers of the country’s government, representatives of the Presidential Administration, and the participation of State Duma deputies are expected. Participants will be able to chat with Aram Gabrelyanov, creator of popular media resources, Kim Druzhinin, director, Alexey Goreslavsky, head of the Institute for Internet Development, Vladimir Tabak, head of ANO Dialog, and other well-known representatives of the Russian media sphere.

The TV BRICS media network has raised the global problem of land degradation and shown ways to solve it in a new documentary “Earth. Lines of life”. The TV project completes the large-scale media campaign TV BRICS in support of the Silk Road Caravan initiative, implemented in 2026 by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

Premiere of the film “Earth. Lifelines” will be held on August 26, 2026 at the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, which is being held in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia). The next day, on August 27, the project will be released on the TV channel TV BRICS. Subsequently, it will be adapted into the main languages of the BRICS countries and transferred to the media network’s partners for international distribution.

Yasmin Fouad, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, said in an interview with the BRICS media network TV BRICS that the Silk Road Caravan initiative is developing from awareness-raising to practical action on the ground: “Low-income and lower-middle-income countries will receive assistance through this initiative in the first place. We are talking about 75 states that have already developed their drought management plans and need such support <...> The BWC strives, together with international financial institutions, other UN agencies, partners and the private sector, to show that the problem of drought and investments in land can be financially beneficial. Thus, we are more actively involving the private sector in mitigating the effects of soil degradation and drought.”

Lifelines” (running time 39 minutes) focuses on the Russian part of the route of the “Silk Road Caravan”, which passed through the territory of three regions of the Russian Federation – the Republic of Dagestan, the Republic of Kalmykia and the Astrakhan region. The project shows successful practices of sustainable pasture management, biodiversity conservation, phytomelioration and rational water use, demonstrates examples of effective interaction between the state, science and local communities to solve problems affecting the environment, economy and social sphere. The film was created by representatives of the United Nations, experts and practitioners in the field of agriculture, experts from different countries, including Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Russia and Tunisia.

“Broad information coverage of the problem of land degradation is of crucial importance for solving the challenges facing the world community. The media have the potential to form an environmentally responsible society by fostering respect for the soil as one of the key natural resources. International information cooperation can contribute to a deeper understanding of land degradation processes and become an effective mechanism for the dissemination of applied knowledge. For Russia, these issues are of particular importance, given its territory and significant contribution to ensuring global food security. The preservation of soil fertility, rational land use and effective management of water resources are necessary conditions for stable agricultural production. In this context, the Russian Federation supported the Silk Road Caravan 2026 initiative. It is extremely important that such an event receives proper media coverage. In particular, the TV BRICS media network has produced the documentary “Earth. Lifeline”, which demonstrates domestic experience in combating drought and land degradation. Such media products are designed to form responsible approaches to natural resources in society in order to preserve our planet for future generations,” said Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The premiere screening of the documentary “Earth. Lifelines” on TV BRICS channels will be held on August 27 at 12:00, 17:00. 22:00 Moscow time. Repeat on August 29 at 13:00 and 19:30 Moscow time.

TV BRICS is an official partner of the United Nations. In 2025, the National Network of the UN Global Compact in Russia joined the cooperation with the media network. In 2026, TV BRICS became an international information partner of the Silk Road Caravan initiative of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

Information help

The international media network TV BRICS was established in 2017 following the results of the BRICS summit in Xiamen (China), becoming a practical implementation of the initiative supported by the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa on the need to disseminate objective information about the activities of the BRICS. The headquarters of TV BRICS is located in Moscow.

TV BRICS is the latest system of multilateral information exchange between the media of the BRICS+ countries. The partners interact through the multilingual TV BRICS portal and the round-the-clock TV channel. Over 100 media structures from more than 30 countries act as permanent partners of TV BRICS, while the media network’s information presence reaches 80 countries.

The mission of TV BRICS is to create a unified BRICS information space, to disseminate objective information about the humanitarian and economic activities of the participants and partners of the association.

As an international partner, TV BRICS provides communication and information support for major international events in the BRICS+ countries, provides media support for the activities of government authorities, government, non-profit and public organizations.

Russia officially celebrates National Flag Day on August 22. This holiday is not just a red date on the calendar, but a living link of time, a symbol of sovereignty and national pride, which today unites Russians all over the world – from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka, from diplomatic missions to Antarctic stations.

Established by Presidential Decree in 1994, the holiday refers to the events of August 1991, when the historic white-blue-red tricolor officially rose over the White House in Moscow for the first time after a long break. However, the roots of this banner go back centuries. Back in 1669, under Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, the tricolor cloth decorated the first Russian warship Orel, and in 1705 Peter the Great assigned it to the merchant fleet, making it a recognizable symbol of Russia on the seas.

Today, the white-blue-red colors embody a centuries-old tradition, the unity of the people and the openness of the country to the world. For the diplomatic service, the flag is not just an attribute of ceremonies. He meets delegations at airports, flies over embassies and consulates, and accompanies every Foreign Ministry employee on his responsible mission abroad. In this sense, Flag Day is a professional guideline for everyone who represents Russia on the international stage on a daily basis.

On the days of the holiday, solemn ceremonies, patriotic actions and flash mobs are held throughout the country. But perhaps the most important meaning of this day is to remind that under the tricolor banner we remain a united nation capable of preserving our values and confidently looking to the future.

The editorial board of Embassy Life cordially congratulates colleagues, compatriots and all friends of Russia on the National Flag Day! May this symbol inspire new achievements, serve as a reminder of our common history and strengthen faith in the strength and dignity of our country – wherever we are.

Happy holidays, Russia!

научно-практическая конференция «Институт семьи в Еврейской автономной области: диалог культур и сохранение традиций»;

телемост между Приамурским государственным университетом имени Шолом-Алейхема и Еврейским университетом (Москва);

арт-резиденция с мастер-классами и перформансами;

“Today, in the very center of Moscow, on Tverskaya Boulevard, a wonderful photo exhibition dedicated to the Samara land opens. The year 2026 is truly a landmark year for the region: January marked the 175th anniversary of the formation of Samara Province, and in September the city of Samara will celebrate its 440th anniversary. Many natives of the Samara region live in the capital and work for the benefit of Moscow and the whole of Russia. It is also important to note that Moscow and the Samara Region have signed an agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation, which is being implemented on a mutually beneficial basis in various fields – trade, healthcare, education, tourism, sports and, of course, culture. It is within the framework of cultural cooperation that we are opening this exhibition today, which, I am sure, will delight all Muscovites and guests of the capital,” he said. Ivan Petrov in his welcoming speech.

The exhibition contains photographs that reveal different facets of the Samara region. The images are divided into thematic sections: “Nature”, “Economy”, “Samara Space”, “Reserve Capital (Kuibyshev)”, “Architecture”, “Culture” and “Festivals”.

Separate stands are dedicated to the common features of Moscow and Samara, as well as the creative heritage of architects and sculptors who worked in both cities.

A guided tour of the exhibition was organized for the guests of the opening ceremony, as well as a performance by a native of the Samara region, a 4th-year student of the Vocal Art and Opera Training Department at the A.G. Schnittke Moscow State Institute of Music. Vachagan Mosoyan.

In my practice and in life, I see an astonishing paradox every day…

Women who professionally save others—counselling crisis families, running social projects, supporting colleagues and loved ones—often turn out to be the most vulnerable when it comes to their own exhaustion.

I call this the “Blue Wall” effect: we build a strong fortress around ourselves for everyone seeking protection, but we remain behind that wall—without strength, without resources, without the right to show weakness.

Numbers That Should Stop Us

The phenomenon of professional burnout among women leaders and public figures has long ceased to be an individual story—it is a systemic epidemic. According to the McKinsey & Company and Lean In study “Women in the Workplace 2025,” 6 out of 10 women in leadership positions (60%) report that they have frequently experienced burnout in recent months—the highest figure in the past five years. For comparison, among male leaders, this indicator stands at 50%. Projections for 2026, based on current trends, suggest a possible rise to 65% among women leaders unless systemic support measures are implemented.

According to Russian studies from 2025, women overall face symptoms of emotional burnout more often than men: 61% vs. 54%.

In the civil society sector, the situation remains worrying: research confirms that women leaders of non-profit organisations are at increased risk. And this is not about “weakness”—it is about the systemic overloads that we, as women, have come to accept as normal.

Why We Burn Out Faster and Deeper

Emotional burnout in women has its own anatomy. We become exhausted not just from the volume of tasks—we become depleted on several levels simultaneously.

Double and triple burden. Even in couples where both work full‑time, women spend 2‑3 times more hours on housework and childcare than men. This is the infamous “second shift”—unpaid, undervalued, and never‑ending.

Invisible emotional labour. We remember who called from school, who needs a gift, whose mother was offended. We manage the emotions of the entire family—smoothing conflicts, supporting, comforting. And we do the same at work: coordinating, mediating, maintaining team morale. Research shows that women take on coordination, monitoring, and colleague support tasks that are critically important for daily work but are not always recognised or fairly distributed. According to surveys, women are significantly more likely than men to name burnout and mental health as their main concern: 35.9% vs. 27.5%.

The “I’ll do it myself” syndrome. Hyper‑responsibility and the sincere belief that “if not me, then no one will cope,” a ban on negative emotions, ignoring signals from our own bodies—these are habitual patterns that have been eroding our resources for years.

The Oxygen Mask Rule

In psychology, there is a golden rule: it is impossible to care for others while being emotionally exhausted. The same is reminded to us on airplanes: “Put the mask on yourself first, then on your child.” But in real life, we do the opposite—first we save everyone around us, and then, if we have any strength left, we try to breathe ourselves.

Research confirms that a key protective factor against burnout is self‑compassion. Women with high levels of self‑compassion show significantly greater resilience to exhaustion. That is, the ability to treat ourselves with the same kindness and understanding with which we treat those we help.

Self‑Support Techniques: How Not to Burn Out in Service

Preventing burnout begins with acknowledging: I have the right to be tired, I have the right to take a pause, I have the right to ask for help. Then—by implementing specific practices.

Allow yourself to be “imperfect.” Perfectionism destroys mental health. Lower the bar in everyday life and secondary tasks. The world will not collapse if dinner is ordered rather than cooked from scratch.

Master the art of saying no. Saying “no” to others’ requests is an automatic “yes” to your own health and time.

Take a mini‑holiday every day. Set aside at least 30 minutes each day exclusively for yourself. No phone, no chores, no work chats. This is not a luxury—it is a necessity.

Practice the “stop signal.” When you feel emotions overflowing, pause. Take a deep breath, leave the room, change activities. Under stress, our brain switches from logic to instincts—a pause restores control.

Keep a self‑gratitude journal. Every evening, write down three things you are grateful to yourself for today. This shifts the brain from problem‑seeking to noticing your own achievements.

Review your environment. Minimise contact with people who criticise, devalue, or use you as an emotional crutch. Your emotional resource is too valuable.

Learn to ask for and accept help. Delegation is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of mature leadership.

Dear colleagues, we are used to being a support for others. But the “Blue Wall” will not hold if its foundation is depleted. Self‑care is not selfishness. It is a professional necessity and a civic responsibility. Only by preserving our own resources can we continue to do what brought us to this profession: changing the world for the better. Start with yourself—and you will see how your ability to help others becomes not a feat, but a sustainable, joyful, and long‑term service.

On June 25, 2026, the Moscow House of Nationalities hosted a strategic meeting of the International Discussion Club “VISION 3000” with the support of the Moscow Government (Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of the City of Moscow). The event was dedicated to the theme: “Education through Culture: How Traditions, Public Diplomacy and Historical Memory Shape the Individual”.

The general information partner was the online media “Embassy Life”.

Gastrod Diplomacy as a Tool of People’s Diplomacy and Historical Memory

A vivid and memorable presentation was delivered by Evgeny Gavrilovich Vlasov – Head of the Representative Office of the Governor and Government of Kamchatka Krai under the Government of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Council of Heads of Representative Offices of Subjects of the Russian Federation. He presented the topic: “Gastrod Diplomacy as a Tool of People’s Diplomacy and Historical Memory.”

Opening his speech, Evgeny Gavrilovich welcomed the participants and shared his impressions of the recently held festival “Russia is Us! The Resonance of Cultures,” noting that it is a vivid example of people’s diplomacy. Through the presentation of the unique cultures of our multinational people, we come to know Russia, enrich ourselves and educate ourselves. He thanked the President of the Club, Alfiya Amirova, for the exhibition presented at the festival, which became an important part of this cultural dialogue.

Why Gastrod Diplomacy?

The speaker drew attention to the connection between the festival and gastrod diplomacy: throughout the concert, the hosts linked the regions not only with unique dances and performances, but also with the food that can be tasted in this or that region. Gastronomy also united the entire concert, becoming a bridge between cultures.

Evgeny Gavrilovich presented the case of the Kamchatka Territory, showing how at first glance distant concepts — diplomacy, historical memory, gastronomy and the unique culture of the regions — are interconnected.

Gastrod Diplomacy as “Soft Power”

The speaker emphasized that gastrod diplomacy has long become a real instrument of “soft power.” When national cuisine is purposefully used to shape the image of a country or region, we see classic work with reputation and trust. This is a sphere where not states, but people themselves, through treats, shared meals and exchanging recipes, build bridges. Food acts as a universal language: through taste, aroma and shared cooking, the deepest immersion into culture takes place.

Historical Memory in Every Dish

Memory of the past is stored not only in archives. Every traditional dish is a frozen history. Evgeny Gavrilovich gave a vivid example: when tasting “tolkusha” — a dish of the Itelmens made from pine nuts, roots and seal fat — we touch the diet of people who survived for centuries in the harsh conditions of the North. And when we prepare Kamchatka-style salmon soup from freshly caught salmon, we remember the fishing cooperatives that during the Great Patriotic War worked around the clock to catch fish for the front, replacing scarce meat with canned food.

Kamchatka as a Model of a Multinational World

The speaker noted that Kamchatka is a model of a multinational world. Different culinary traditions historically coexisted there, and an amazing interpenetration occurred. The Russian stove and fish soup from three types of fish, Korean kimchi from wild garlic, Itelmen tolkusha — all this constitutes a single gastronomic image of the region. Evgeny Gavrilovich emphasized that this approach is consciously cultivated in the Kamchatka Territory, and as confirmation of his words, he presented a book on the development of the gastronomic direction on the peninsula.

Flagship Project: Festival “PaprotnIKRAb”

Special attention was paid to the flagship project of gastrod diplomacy on the peninsula — the festival “PaprotnIKRAb”. The name itself plays on three key products: fern, caviar and crab. The festival’s format is unique: not only the best chefs of Russia come to it, but also foreign guests. Evgeny Gavrilovich shared fresh impressions: the festival took place throughout the previous week and included many events — from the mass collection of ferns to special menus in key restaurants of the region, business, competition and entertainment programs.

State Support and Economic Effect

It is important to note that this vector of development received powerful support from the state. The President of the country, Vladimir Putin, repeatedly emphasized the need to remove infrastructural restrictions and create comfortable conditions for the development of the tourism business, including in Kamchatka. Evgeny Gavrilovich noted that gastronomic tourism gives a multiplier effect: hotels are filled, local food producers are actively developing, roads are being modernized and new berths are being built. This is a real contribution to the economy, which at the same time preserves the fragile ecosystem, makes travel accessible to guests and brings direct benefits to the residents of the peninsula.

Reaching the Federal Level

Now the promotion of Kamchatka cuisine has gone far beyond the region. A striking example is the work of the Representative Office of the Kamchatka Territory in Moscow, which conducts real gastrod diplomacy. The geography of events is constantly expanding: from large-scale festivals at iconic venues in the capital to chamber, but extremely prestigious presentations at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federation Council.

Conclusion: Russia as a Gastronomic Encyclopedia

In conclusion, Evgeny Gavrilovich emphasized that our country is a huge gastronomic encyclopedia. At one end — Pomor fish soup with cod and cloudberry, at the other — Caucasian khinkal with spicy herbs, in the Volga region — Tatar echpochmak, in the Far East — Buryat buuz and Kamchatka “telnoye”. Behind every dish is a people with its history, climate and cultural code. But it is important that this diversity does not divide, but unites. This is the idea underlying many all-Russian initiatives.

A striking example is the festival “Russia is Us! The Resonance of Cultures”. At such venues, people’s diplomacy ceases to be an abstraction. The festival proves in practice: through gastronomy we realize our enormous cultural wealth and unity. This is the very foundation on which the unique gastrod diplomatic experience of each individual region is built, including our Kamchatka Territory.

The article is prepared based on the materials of the speech by Evgeny Gavrilovich Vlasov within the framework of the meeting of the International Discussion Club “VISION 3000”.
