Under the supervision of orthopedic surgeons, the robot performed a joint replacement for a 73-year-old patient at the West China Hospital of Sichuan University.

Zhou Zongke, a professor of orthopedics at the hospital, said that a patient suffering from knee pain for more than a decade has been diagnosed with terminal osteoarthritis of the knee joint.  Before the operation, doctors enter the patient’s computed tomography data into the computer’s memory to simulate and rehearse the surgical procedure with the help of a robot.

“The advantage of robotic surgery is that it is intelligent and performs delicate manipulations with high precision,” he said.

Knee joint pain is common in the elderly, especially in patients with osteoarthritis. The robot can assist surgeons in human operations according to the different health conditions of each patient.

The robot is manufactured by Yuanhua Intelligent, Guangdong Province.
