We strongly condemn the December 12 terrorist attack on a hotel in the Afghan capital, for which the ISIS group claimed responsibility. As a result of the barbaric terrorist attack and the fire that broke out in the building, according to various estimates, at least five people were killed and 30 more were injured. Five Chinese citizens have been confirmed injured. We express our condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
This tragic event is, unfortunately, not the first act of terrorism in Afghanistan over the past few months, including against foreigners, and once again confirms the need for joint and coordinated actions of the world community to eradicate the terrorist threat in Afghanistan. We call on the Afghan Government to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident, find and punish the perpetrators, as well as take decisive measures to ensure the safety of the local population, foreign citizens, and intensify the fight against the ISIS underground.
