The construction of the new Chukchi sea terminal will be carried out in the port of Pevek. According to the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated March 9, it is planned to allocate more than 27.6 billion rubles for the construction of cargo berths and hydraulic structures. The project managers will receive funds from the federal budget in the next 4 years.

“At the expense of federal funding, the deepening of the water area will be carried out at Cape Nagleynin with the construction of an approach channel for ships. At the same time, berths will be created for the shipment of products of the Baim Mining and Processing Plant. The terminal’s capacity will be about 2 million tons of cargo per year,” the press service of the Government of the Russian Federation said in a statement.

In addition, the ministry noted that the allocated funds will allow installing additional floating nuclear power units, creating new jobs, increasing the shipment of metals at the terminal to 2 million tons, etc.

Development of the port of Pevek (approx. – which is the order of the President of the Russian Federation) will be a step in the implementation of the initiative of socio-economic development of the country “Year-round Northern Sea Route”. The creation of a fully equipped port infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route is especially important for the country, said Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
