Online publication “Embassy life”. Question: How does Moscow assess the recent statements by Moldovan officials about Chisinau’s pursuit of the goal of destroying the economic basis of Transnistria?

Zakharova Maria Vladimirovna. Answer: Yes, we have seen these statements. According to the shaking of the air by the Moldovan authorities, who were visited by another revelation, they began to apply tax and economic measures against Transnistria – meaning the recent abolition of value–added tax and excise taxes, which until recently were used by Transnistrian enterprises – nothing less than to destroy the economic mechanisms of the left bank of the Dniester.

Amazing candor. In Chisinau, they like to talk about non-discriminatory treatment of residents of both banks of the Dniester. They say that the focus on reintegration is on equalizing their economic conditions and living standards, and striving for common social standards. Now, it turns out that the goal is completely different – destruction. But what about the fate of tens of thousands of people, their families’ livelihoods, and personal prospects?

A reasonable question arises – what kind of progress in economic reintegration did Moldovan President Mikhail Sandu have in mind in a recent interview? I think that against the background of the stalling negotiations between Chisinau and Tiraspol, this may not be a unilateral destructive message, but only progress in resolving specific issues in the interests of a real improvement in the lives of residents of both banks of the Dniester, which is impossible without the implementation of previously reached agreements.
