The need to sign paper documents can delay many processes, including the delivery of goods. For example, in the field of maritime transport, downtime can be up to five days. For large exporters and ports, it costs hundreds of millions of rubles.

In order to reduce delays and increase the speed of cargo delivery by sea, scientists of the Competence Center of the NTI “Center for Distributed Registry Technologies of St. Petersburg State University” together with specialists of the company “MAS-Vneshtrans” We have created a special electronic document management platform for maritime exports. Thanks to it, the time for signing cargo documents will be reduced from a few days to two hours.

The use of blockchain technology will prevent the leakage of important documents. Its essence is to create a decentralized network that consists of a chain of blocks with information. All links contain code that depends on the previous blocks, which does not allow faking and changing information. This innovative method of data processing ensures their integrity and security.

“When creating the platform, our task was to automate a very complex process, which includes the reconciliation of information, the release of an electronic version of documents, electronic signature, sending data to the right recipients, and much more. The new development will allow export participants to track the process of cargo transfer. At the same time, information about possible loss or forgery of information will be visible to all parties, since cargo data is recorded and entered into the system at each stage of its transfer. Thus, the risks of physical destruction of cargo, hacker attacks and substitution are significantly reduced,” said Dmitry Shishmakov, Director of the Center for Distributed Registry Technologies at St. Petersburg State University.

At the moment, this is the only system that allows you to organize the release of electronic documents for maritime trade in the Russian jurisdiction, there are no analogues to it. Experts say that the use of the platform is possible in the coming months.
