According to scientists, the need to create a new methodology for studying these emissions arose after Russian astrophysicists discovered discrepancies between the real structure of jets and their generally accepted theoretical description.
Researchers from Russia have developed a new method that allows for a more accurate and detailed study of the structure of black hole emissions, as well as to search in their vicinity for various anomalies indicating the existence of “wormholes” and other exotic objects and structures in the fabric of space-time. This was reported by the MIPT press service.
“According to scientists, their proposed model will help not only in the study of supermassive black holes and their emissions, but will also provide an opportunity to discover new exotic objects that currently exist in the form of hypotheses. In particular, astrophysicists will receive a new tool for searching in space for such high-energy objects as “wormholes” that can directly connect remote points of the universe,” the message says.
A new approach for studying and describing the properties of so-called jets, emissions of supermassive black holes, was developed by Professor Alexander Pushkarev of the Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow) and Head of the Laboratory of Fundamental and Applied Research of Relativistic objects of the Universe at MIPT (Dolgoprudny) By Elena Nokhrina.
According to scientists, the need to create a new methodology for studying these emissions arose after Russian astrophysicists discovered discrepancies between the real structure of jets and their generally accepted theoretical description. Scientists have discovered that these outbursts actually have a parabolic, rather than a conical shape, and have also discovered evidence that their matter accelerates and interacts with magnetic fields in a different way than theoretical astrophysicists have assumed in the past.
“In our new work, we proposed such a method for determining the magnetic field in jets, which is consistent with the new picture of the shape of jets and the acceleration of plasma in them. Although this method requires more observational data, it allows <...> to look into the very heart of the active machine of a supermassive black hole,” explained Nokhrina, whose words are quoted by the MIPT press service.
Scientists have already successfully tested the work of this approach on data obtained during observations of the emissions of supermassive black holes in the galaxies M87 and NGC 315. The calculations carried out by the researchers also indicated that their methodology can be used to search for exotic objects in the vicinity of black holes, including quark stars and “wormholes”, whose existence is allowed by some theories. Their discovery will lead to a real revolution in astronomy, the scientists concluded.
