Toraga Nurlanbek Shakiyev received Russian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nikolay Udovichenko

Today, on December 20, the Toraga of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Nurlanbek Shakiyev, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kyrgyz Republic, Nikolay Udovichenko.

The meeting discussed issues of increasing political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries, including the expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Toraga Nurlanbek Shakiyev noted that Kyrgyzstan is interested in the comprehensive development of the strategic partnership established with Russia. “Our interstate relations are distinguished by the fact that they are based on mutual trust and historical ties. We need to continue to increase cooperation in all areas and actively develop partnerships within international organizations such as the EAEU, SCO, CIS,” he said.

The Toraga of the Jogorku Kenesh also touched upon the current state of economic relations. “For 9 months of this year, the volume of trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Russia reached 2 billion 226 million US dollars, which is 36.8% more compared to the same period last year. This is certainly not the limit. We are striving to further strengthen economic ties with Russia as our main trading partner,” he added.

In addition, Nurlanbek Shakiyev, speaking about inter-parliamentary cooperation, noted that relations in this area are actively continuing and said that next year it is planned to make an official visit to the Russian Federation.

In turn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Kyrgyzstan Nikolay Udovichenko thanked Torag Nurlanbek Shakiyev for the warm welcome and informed about the current state of bilateral and international relations. He noted that special importance is attached to cooperation in the fields of economy, medicine, culture, as well as in the field of emergency response and security.

In addition, he said that major projects in the field of education are being developed in Kyrgyzstan, the construction of schools is planned. The Ambassador also outlined good results in the field of tourism this year, adding that a large number of direct flights had a positive impact on this.
