On the meeting of the Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry A.V. Yakovenko with Syrian Ambassador Bashar Jaafari

On January 12, a member of the Board, Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry A.V. Yakovenko received the new Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to Russia Bashar Jaafari.

During the conversation, an interested exchange of views was held on the situation in the Middle East and in Syria in particular. The Ambassador emphasized Russia’s role in the struggle of the Syrian people against terrorist organizations and their sponsors for the sovereignty and independent development of their country.

The high level of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Syria on a wide range of issues, including in the educational sphere, was noted. The positive experience of established contacts between the Diplomatic Academy and the Diplomatic Institute under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the SAR was emphasized. A.V. Yakovenko proposed again, as it was in 2022, to send young Syrian diplomats to the Academy for a two-week internship, as well as to continue consultations with the director of the Diplomatic Institute I. Mustafa.

The Syrian Ambassador conveyed to the Rector of the Diplomatic Academy, on behalf of the leadership of the institute, an invitation to visit Damascus, deliver a series of lectures on Russian foreign policy and sign an updated agreement between the two educational institutions.

B. Jaafari was informed in detail about the structure and work of the Academy in the scientific and educational sphere, its publishing activities.

A.V. Yakovenko invited the Ambassador to speak at a convenient time to the audience and the teaching staff on the topic “Priorities of Syria’s foreign Policy”, as well as to write an article for the Academy’s electronic journal “Diplomatic Service and Practice”, which was gratefully accepted.
