On March 22, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin held a meeting via videoconference with the Co–Chairs of the International Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia (MZHD) – UN Representative J.Sultanoglu, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus T. Klaar and OSCE Chairman-in-Office Special Representative for the South Caucasus V. Moshan.
The central topic of the discussion was the discussion of the prospects for further work of the MZHD. The principled position of the Russian side on the unacceptability of many months of downtime of this unique negotiation format due to unmotivated cancellations and postponements by the Co–chairs – contrary to the opinion of the majority of participating States – of regular rounds of the MZHD has been brought to international affairs.
The commitment of the Russian side to solving the main task of the Ministry of Railways – ensuring stability and security in the Transcaucasian region, which Moscow sees through obtaining guarantees from Georgia of non-use of force against Sukhum and Tskhinvali, as well as the beginning of the process of delimitation of the Georgian-Abkhaz and Georgian-South Ossetian borders with their subsequent demarcation, was confirmed.
