On April 3, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Burak Akcapar.
There was a detailed discussion of topical issues on the international and regional agenda, taking into account their consideration in the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly. Particular attention was paid to the current situation in and around Syria, with an emphasis on the need for urgent mobilization of comprehensive international humanitarian assistance to victims of the devastating earthquake in the Syrian-Turkish border area on February 6. The interlocutors stressed the importance of ensuring broad humanitarian access, providing assistance to all those in need without politicization, discrimination and preconditions.
In addition, the issues of the implementation of the “package” agreements concluded in Istanbul on July 22, 2022 – the “Black Sea initiative” on the export of Ukrainian food and the Russia-UN Memorandum on the normalization of domestic agricultural exports were considered. It was noted that only the full and conscientious implementation of both agreements in conjunction with each other will contribute to reducing threats to global food security and support the most vulnerable countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
