The work on the preparation of a feasibility study for the construction of the China-Uzbekistan—Kyrgyzstan railway has been completed. This was stated by the Chairman of the Government of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov on Friday, speaking in parliament.
“The feasibility study of the China—Kyrgyzstan—Uzbekistan railway project has been completed,” he said. According to him, the construction of the highway will begin after the parties agree on the financial part of the project.
As the head of government assured, in mid-May of this year, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov is expected to visit China, during which the parties will discuss the financing model. According to the head of the Kyrgyz government, the cost of the project may leave from 3 to 5 billion dollars.
The length of the China—Kyrgyzstan—Uzbekistan railway will be about 450 km, of which about 280 km will run through the Kyrgyz territory. It is planned that several tunnels with a total length of 57 km will be laid on this segment. Kyrgyzstan will also install a base for replacing wheelsets, which is necessary due to differences in track width in China and in the CIS. According to experts, after putting this section of the railway into operation, its loading can amount to up to 5 million tons of cargo per year. The new road will significantly reduce the delivery time of goods from Southeast Asia to the Middle East and Europe.
