Specialists of the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPbGASU)
have developed and patented a design that allows the pipeline to be flushed from sediment under air pressure without any valves. This was reported to TASS on Wednesday in the press service of the university.
“The drainage system operating under the pressure of an “air cushion” allows automated flushing of pipelines from sediment and controlled removal of polluted air under pressure for gas purification. These activities allow the patented construction to be carried out,” the university said.
As the head of the Department of Water Use and Ecology of Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPbGASU) Svyatoslav Fedorov explained, quoted by the press service, there is a problem of silting in the sewage system, as well as the problem of uncontrolled release of polluted air from wells, which, among other things, has an unpleasant smell, which worsens the quality of the urban environment.
The patented design allows you to control the level and flow rate of wastewater in the pipe. At the same time, the excess of the injected air is removed without the use of any valves, the university said.
“The analog of such a system is pipelines equipped with control valves. However, the technical solution proposed in Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPbGASU) is characterized by high energy efficiency, reliability and provides self-regulation of the city’s drainage system,” the press service noted.
