The exposition dedicated to the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War was opened at the Security Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Vitebsk. In addition to the exposition dedicated to the genocide, the VR project of students of Polotsk State University “Polotsk Frontier” is presented at the exhibition.

“In order to convey to young people information about the horrors that were going on during the Great Patriotic War, you need to talk to them in a modern language, so we decided to supplement the exposition with an unusual virtual platform,” said Sergey Meleshkin, head of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, at the opening of the exhibition.

The virtual reality platform will function during the entire duration of the exposition. Anyone wearing VR glasses will be able to participate in a virtual military operation to protect Polotsk during the offensive of German troops in 1941. According to the scenario, the fighter will be in the pillbox of the Polotsk fortified area, receive combat missions and perform them.

As Vitebsk rescuers noted, the idea of creating an exhibition arose after the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus opened a criminal case in April 2021 on the fact of the genocide of the population of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War and in the post-war period.

The exhibition presents materials collected by the Prosecutor’s office of Vitebsk during the investigation of the atrocities of the Fascist invaders on the territory of the region and the regional center. In addition, the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore and Gymnasium No. 4 of the city of Vitebsk helped to complement the exposition.

The exposition “Genocide of the Belarusian People” will work in the Security Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Vitebsk until May 16. It will be open to visitors from 8:00 to 18:00, admission by appointment. Similar exhibitions will be organized in the security centers of the city of Barani, Orsha district and Novopolotsk.
