The most popular cities for domestic tourism in Russia in the summer of 2023 were Sochi, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Kaliningrad and Mineral Waters were also popular.
On average, a vacation in Russia lasted seven days, and tourists started booking trips on average 25 days before departure. In addition, Makhachkala, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Samara and Ufa entered the top 10 popular destinations, experts in the field of tourism said.
Another study showed that Moscow accounted for 21.9% of hotel bookings in the summer of 2023, and St. Petersburg – 16.6%. 7.5% of Russians visited Sochi in the summer, Moscow 24 reports.
Tourists most often traveled by plane to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad and Mineralnye Vody. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Adler and Rostov-on-Don became popular railway destinations.
Turkey, Italy and Egypt were popular among foreign destinations. At the same time, Turkey’s share decreased from 64 to 56% compared to last year, and Egypt increased its share from 6 to 10%, Izvestia reports.
This year, Russians preferred to rest in pairs and without children – 63% of vacationers chose this option. Five-star hotels were most often booked for accommodation.
Earlier it became known that Moscow has become the most popular destination for summer holidays. Sochi is in second place.
