On November 9, a regular meeting of the Public Council under the Ministry of Culture of Russia took place. The event was attended by the State Secretary – Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Nadezhda Reverend.
The main topic of discussion was the role of the youth movement in the field of cultural heritage preservation. The moderator was the First Deputy chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for Youth Affairs, the development of volunteerism and patriotic education Elena Rodionova. She pointed out the importance of preserving traditions.
“The preservation of cultural heritage, which means the preservation of historical memory and concern for the future, takes place with the direct participation of the youth themselves. Young restorers who burn and breathe good deeds are the most important thing for our country,” Elena Rodionova said.
State Secretary – Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Nadezhda Venerable noted that cultural heritage is not only monuments. It also includes an intangible ethno-cultural heritage.
“Volunteers are actively involved in the preservation of cultural heritage sites. This is how they get the primary knowledge for their future profession. Traditions are dynamic, and how we all work together, how much we can preserve this heritage, depends on what will remain for future generations,” added the Reverend Nadezhda.
Vladimir Tsoi, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Leningrad Region, Chairman of the Committee for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, spoke about the work of the International Restoration Center. The center opened in February 2023. The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova and Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova.
“It is important for us that it acts not only as a restoration center, but also the educational component is important for us. Therefore, we are actively working with volunteers,” Vladimir Tsoi stressed.
Vyacheslav Fatin, President of the Union of Restorers, noted that work with young people is a priority for them. The Union has organized more than 30 field restoration schools for young people.
“We are doing everything so that the younger generation that came to the restoration, it stayed there, continued to work and develop. Since 2018, the union has been organizing field schools for young people. The revival of wooden architecture, church architecture, icon painting and paintings, as well as the adaptation of monuments to modern conditions are the main tasks of modern restoration in general and schools in particular,” Vyacheslav Fatin said.
The event was also attended by Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Artem Gorny, Director of the Culture Department of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as well as representatives of regional and federal ministries and departments, higher and secondary vocational educational institutions, regional branches of the Union of Restorers of Russia.
