Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, as Co-Chairman, held The 20th anniversary meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Energy Cooperation between Russia and China will be held in Beijing.

“Russian-Chinese relations are based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and readiness to provide resolute mutual support on issues related to fundamental national interests. Energy occupies an important place in the complex of Russian-Chinese multifaceted relations, plays the role of their locomotive. Despite the challenges that our countries face at the present stage, energy cooperation is rapidly advancing in all directions, is enriched with new content and acquires the character of a genuine strategic alliance,” Alexander Novak said, opening the meeting of the commission.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the unprecedented level of growth in trade turnover between Russia and China: to date, it has already exceeded $ 200 billion. A third of this volume was accounted for by energy trade.

Russia traditionally ranks first in terms of oil exports to China. Pipeline gas supplies through the Power of Siberia are increasing. Work is underway on new routes for its supply – both directly from Russia along the Far Eastern route, and through Mongolia. The implementation of all planned projects will increase the total volume of natural gas exports to China to 100 billion cubic meters.

Cooperation on LNG and coal supplies to China is also expanding. The implementation of a number of promising bilateral projects in these areas will bring Russian-Chinese cooperation to a qualitatively new level and lead to new record figures.

Special attention is paid to cooperation in the nuclear sector and in the field of renewable energy sources. Strengthening of partnership in the field of electric power industry and cooperation in the field of renewable energy are discussed.

“We are committed to the closest partnership with the Chinese side in the energy sector in all areas of cooperation. We are talking about further increasing the supply of Russian energy resources to the Chinese market, as well as attracting Chinese investments and advanced technological solutions to the fuel and energy complex of the Russian Federation,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
