Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to withdraw the operational group of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations from the territory of Egypt. This was stated by the head of the department, Alexander Kurenkov, on December 18 during an operational conference call.
“According to the results of almost two months of work, more than a thousand people, including more than 470 children, were taken to Russia, where they received comprehensive assistance and support. The final group of citizens is waiting to be sent to Cairo – 73 more people, including 45 children. Thus, Russian rescuers evacuated 1,124 people from the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. And now we can say that all requests for evacuation assistance received through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been fulfilled. In this regard, the President of the Russian Federation has decided to withdraw the operational group of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations from the territory of Egypt,” Alexander Kurenkov said.
The Minister heard representatives of the task force working in the Arab Republic of Egypt since November 3. In cooperation with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the staff met citizens and their family members at the Rafah checkpoint, provided assistance during customs procedures, accompanied them to Cairo, where they then prepared for shipment to Moscow by planes of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations. Doctors and psychologists from the Ministry worked with people along the entire route. At the same time, an interdepartmental operational headquarters was deployed at Domodedovo Airport.
Alexander Kurenkov also noted the importance of humanitarian assistance to residents of the Gaza Strip. In total, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia sent 15 special flights and delivered 350 tons of humanitarian supplies.
“I want to thank all the specialists involved in this work for their dedication, willingness to help and efficiency in difficult conditions. I ask you, together with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to clarify the further procedure of work and prepare the task force for departure. Thank you, we are waiting for you at home,” stressed the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
